Thornhill celebrates Maths Week Ireland
Thornhill celebrated Maths Week Ireland this year from 15th -23rd October and as always was made a whole school event. Each department showed how Numeracy is a cross-curricular subject and they promoted Numeracy within their subject throughout the week. Several events were organised.
The year 10 students took part in a Murder Mystery. Year 9 were involved in Maths trails and attended a session with the Happy Puzzle Company.
Primary 6 students from St. Patrick’s, St. Anne’s and St. Eithne’s Primary schools also attended sessions with the Happy Puzzle Company.
Year 9’s went on Maths trails around the school and year 8’s took part in a ‘Find the Prime Challenge’.
A ‘Catch A Maths Moment’ competition took place and all staff and pupils were given the opportunity to get involved.
One of the highlights of the week was the staff ‘Great Mathematical Bake off’. Departments baked a cake which symbolised how Numeracy was evident in their subject. The winning entry was the RE department with their Noah’s ark.
It was a great week and the students thoroughly enjoyed all the different Mathematical activities that took place across the curriculum.
