Personnel Specification - Principal of Thornhill College (2017)


Qualifications/Training
Essential:
  • be a qualified teacher, registered with GTCNI;
  • have evidence of on-going professional development.
Desirable:
  • have successfully completed the Professional Qualification for Headship;
  • have successfully completed an additional and relevant post graduate award-bearing course.

Experience Knowledge
Essential:
  • have been employed in the post-primary sector or related area for at least 12 of the last 15 years i.e. since 1 September 2002;
  • have experience in a Senior Leadership capacity in the post-primary sector, or related area, with at least 4 responsibility points for at least 5 years;
  • have experience of developing, implementing and monitoring curriculum planning or pastoral care policy;
  • have experience in the management of people and resources;
  • have knowledge, understanding and management experience of the post primary sector curriculum with a clear awareness and understanding of the main educational issues facing a large 11-18 College;
  • have an understanding of the nature and purpose of a Catholic School.
Desirable:
  • be a serving Principal or Vice-Principal in a school with a Sixth Form and an enrolment of at least 500 pupils;
  • have experience of leadership of staff;
  • have experience of managing change;
  • have experience of curriculum development in a large 11-18 College.

    • Strategic planning skills;

    • Organisational skills;
    • Management of change skills;
    • Conflict resolution skills;
    • Delegation skills.
  • Communication skills to include:
    • The ability to analyse and evaluate;

  • Interpersonal skills.
