Congratulations to Eva Cassidy (10G) who represented Na Piarsaigh Doire Trasna Gaa Club and won the solo singing category in the Derry County Finals of 'Scór na nÓg'.

Eva  won her heat in Drumsurn Gaa club to qualify for the county finals and, up against the cream of the county and the youngest at only 14, she took 1st place. She goes on now to represent her club and her county in the Ulster championships of 'Scór na nÓg'.

Scór is a cultural competition held by the Gaa with competitions in solo singing, set dancing, traditional instrumental, team dancing, recitation etc. It is a very prestigious competition with a very high standard.

Head of Irish Mr MagUiginn  was the Fear an Tí (Master of ceremonies) for the evening and it was a great night of Irish culture and Language and it is very heartening to see our youth embracing their culture - Eva was presented with the Niamh McGlinchey cup and also a county medal - the same medal a Gaelic footballer hurler or Camógie player gets if they win a county final.

This is the 3rd year in a row that Eve has entered this competition and her practice and perserverance paid off - as a club and community Na Piarsaigh Doire Trasna Gaa Club and all of us in the Thornhill Community are incredibly proud of her achievement.

Comhgairdeas Eva!
