Educating concerned, informed, adaptable
members of the world community

Thornhill College has been awarded the ‘FairAchiever’ School Award by The Fairtrade Foundation.

Congratulations go to Mr McSorley, Miss McCay, Ms Connelly, Miss Bell and the Year 13 Fairtrade Prefects.

This is the highest accolade which the Fairtrade Foundation can confer an on a Fairtrade School and builds on the school’s previous achievement of the ‘FairAware’ and ‘FairActive’ School Awards.
It recognises Thornhill College’s sustained commitment to taking action to promote global issues such as Fairtrade in a cross curricular manner and how the ethos of Fairtrade has been fully embedded into the daily life of our school community with further projects to raise awareness of Fairtrade in our local community as well.

Many events are held throughout our school year (especially during Fairtrade Fortnight) with the support of Foyle Fairtrade and Fairtrade Ireland, which contributed to the achievement of this award. This included a Fairtrade Debate with St. Columb’s College, a Fairtrade Assembly for our whole school community and our Fairtrade Tuck shop open every Thursday and Friday in the Geography corridor. As well as issues of Fairtrade being explored within the Geography and Home Economics curriculum at KS3.
